Want to keep up with Cris?
"Nacho" is Cris's grandpa.
He was a battle-scarred Mexican-American navy man with a grade-school education who went on to serve in U.S. Navy during the Korean War, own homes in two different states and raise a family that has the audacity to change the script.
There are more layers to Ignacio "Nacho" Tamayo than we have space for here. The most important of which was his audacity. His audacity to reach for more.
It's what he passed on to Cris. It's the audacity that has allowed her to stand in board rooms, community rooms and even The White House as her authentic self, advocating for those who voices are too often ignored.
The Nacho Academy is built on the realization that Nacho was not your typical informed and powerful resident. He went to work and came home, and hung out at his bought-and-paid-for home with his family. But when it came time to vote... for anything, Nacho knew what he was doing.
Through The Nacho Academy, Cris is building an army of informed citizens who have her grandfather's audacity to speak up, even if only through informed voting decisions.
The Academy is under development. The current version is based around accessing intellectual capital through:
Experiential learning through "Tagalongs," where you visit local government and community meetings with Cris
Community learning through The FAM, a co-owned Cris venture for everyday changemakers who face life and leadership together
Time to pick Cris's brain
A library of resources for leadership and strategic thinking
The Taco
What's that about?
Turns out, Nacho taught Cris to love of tacos :) A taco can get you quite far with this girl.
For those who simply want to support in some kind of way, Cris asks that you contribute a taco to the cause... a couple, if you're feeling it.
**It's also a feature of that website to ask for support by way of a single item. Tacos felt fitting.**
